The project community:

Ruhr Tourismus GmbH (RTG - Ruhr Tourism)

Ruhr Tourismus GmbH (RTG) was founded in order to coordinate measures to develop an independent tourism profile for the Metropolis Ruhr. RTG coordinated the capacities in the region, supporting providers of tourism industry facilities with qualified information, and performs future-oriented destination management. Furthermore, Ruhr Tourismus GmbH is engaged in trend research, advising its partners in matters of tourism and representing regional interests at a national level.

Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR - Regional Association Ruhr)

The Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR), with its offices in Essen, is the regional hub of the Metropolis Ruhr with its 5.2 million residents. Its statutory tasks include regional promotion of the economy and tourism, regional planning, regional surveillance, and the protection and development of green spaces. Furthermore, the Association supports the Emscher Landscape Park and the industrial culture Route. These two regional network projects are inherent parts of ExtraSchicht.

The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR - Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association)

As the largest German transport association, the VRR in North Rhine-Westphalia provides local public transport from a single source. The cities and districts of the region, local transport companies and the railway companies work hand-in-hand to provide customers with a coordinated range of buses, trams and trains. 27 municipal transport organisations and six railway companies, from Haltern in the North, Solingen in the South, Dortmund in the East and out to the Dutch border in the West, ensure the mobility of around 8 million people in the VRR zone.

RUHR.2010 GmbH

The Metropolis Ruhr is European Capital of Culture 2010. RUHR.2010 GmbH is the company responsible for preparing and implementing the Capital of Culture programme, including all associated marketing and tourism activities. RUHR.2010 is leading the regional powers in the fields of culture, politics and the economy in creative alliances, and sees the title of "European Capital of Culture" as a regional development project with European dimensions. Through the cultural cooperation and networking with partners in the region, the cultural metropolis of the Ruhr is being created, both in the consciousness of the population in the Ruhr Area, and in outside perception. Under the motto "Change through culture – Culture through change", the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 hopes to help create a unity that is not ordered from above, but grows from the bottom up with culture as its motor.
